Develop 3-Year Agribusiness Strategy to guide RIM MFI Ltd. in the categorization of its potential lenders in agribusiness and design appropriate financial products to meet their financial demand.
Project Description:
Lack of access to financing is consistently cited by operators in agribusiness as one of the main barriers to growth. The agribusiness sector, which includes formal and informal businesses, comprises of about 98% of the MFI clients. There are different business operators in the agribusiness, with different financing needs and currently the MFI is not offering customized financial products.
Azimut was contracted to provide support in assessing the agribusiness sector and come up with a strategy of unlocking some of the potential in this sector for RIM IMF Ltd., its MFI partner.
The activities carried out involve:
- Mapping of operators in agribusiness sector, segment & categorize them into sub-sectors (along value-chain), assess/review their respective risks and financing needs, and determine their potential for financing
- Recommendation of appropriate financial products in response to the identified needs in each category/group in the agribusiness sector.
- Proposal of sustainable competitive strategies and business models in each category of segmented operators in the agribusiness sector.
- Provision of suggestions to re-engineer the lending process to achieve operational efficiency.
- Needs capacity assessment of the MFI department responsible for the implementation of this strategy and recommend actions to close the identified gaps.
- Recommendation of capacity building program;
- Development of the terms of reference for the marketing strategy to create awareness of the new financial products.
- Recommendation of capacity building program;
